I found a school-themed set of prints in the clearance section, but there was only one yard of the stripe left, so it was up to my creativity how to use it effectively. The main theme is a studious owl in a variety of studying poses... the stripe has school buses, the alphabet, rulers, crayons and art supplies.. all learning related items.
I finally decided to cut the strips apart individually, fuse them to the quilt front, then sandwich the quilt with backing and batting. When I quilted it, I used a zig zag stitch to permanently adhere the strips to the top of the quilt, in addition to quilting it at the same time.
The backing of the quilt is a coordinating 'studious owl' print with an owl writing on a blackboard
on a 'somewhere between teal and aqua' background. I used a red mini dot for the borders and binding.
As soon as the kids embellish the quilt with their self portraits, I will post the finished product!
